Track Name: Dandelion
You’ve been dragging down some of your friends in this town
Feels like a dead tree with a heavy secret rooted in the solid ground
What are we running from, sadness is a part of everyone
Let it out, spill your guts, don’t you miss the bees pollinating you

No one is blaming you so you better let it out and see it through
I’ll stand beside you germinating in the sun
And oh why I love you even though you haven’t told me the truth
Give it up, spill your guts, don’t you miss the bees pollinating you

‘Cause you are a dandy liar and I am a dandelion

The winds of the universe will blow my seeds away
And plant them in your soil, water and sunlight make me grow
River water will soothe your aching bones
The rocks on the riverbed will be smooth it’s set in stone

‘Cause you are a dandy liar and I am a dandelion
I’m a lion
Track Name: January Snow
They skated down the river, cattails lit on fire
Speaking other languages he’d never heard before
Until he was older, tormented by desire
He learned the names and origins of the men who held the fire

He knew less about the country that his old soul was born in
Then the labourers who came there looking to survive
‘Til he moved to Toronto, found a girl who loved him
She told him about the spirits buried in January snow

And if your spirit is buried in January snow
Find a merchant at market to sell you
Sage, rosemary and thyme
We all want more time

Loggers, mills and dynamite, tanneries insult
The particles inside your nose will denigrate your art
And in the forest of your lovers, love is won and lost
Carried on the currents of the rivers you have crossed

And his body was buried in January snow
For his reason they killed him for treason
And he didn’t get more time
We all want more time
Track Name: Marshland Crow
Marshland crow has black feathers on its breast
Red and yellow paint splashed on its wings to make a crest
When I was young, I was a nature conservationist

You might chance upon this bird perched upon some bullrushes
Staring down at murky water, tadpoles make an early lunch
When I was young, I was astonished by the way things come

The cold blooded green frog has leopard spots on its back
And I would always creep up slowly when I tried to capture one
When I was young, I would meddle in the natural order

The sweet trails I used to walk and ride my bike along
With the pushed down dirt where the grass doesn’t grow anymore
Track Name: The Deer
In the cold light of the morning, as the deer rises from her resting place, the breath that she exhales is seen by the eyes of all us human beings.

And a year ago at this same time, she was a fawn born in mother’s prime.  Playin’ just like children do, but it’s a different kind of game this time.

They camped outside all night long, around the fire singin’ old folk songs.  Dressed up in their camouflage, ready to mount the barrage.

She lifts her head above tall grass, in sunlight beauty is unmasked.  The hunters patiently take aim on an animal without a name.

In the cold light of the morning the deer lays down in her resting place.
Track Name: Altar Boy
The priest would come and pick us up, get us out of school,
In his big old blue Oldsmobile
And he would smoke a cigarette, on the way to pay respect,
Blowing the blue smoke out the crack in the window

We would wear white robes, hang crosses around our necks
Carry the crucifix down the aisle
The teary eyed pall bearers, would carry the coffin in
The ceremony of the dead begins

Incense rose in yellow light, ring the bells and share our strife
Relatives will celebrate his life
At the funerals of people I’d never met
Well I guess I met them but they were already dead

When I was an altar boy, when I was a boy
When I was an altar boy in the Catholic church
